Moving Abroad: Internet Resources for Expats
With the world getting flatter everyday, it’s much easier to move abroad today than it was 20 years ago. If you were exploring the thought of moving abroad, more than likely you’d go to the library or to the bookstore to read up on the place (or places) you’re going to. Nowadays, it’s easy enough to log on and google whatever country you’re going to. You can even go on Google Maps and see not only the maps, but the the view of the street of the apartment you’re looking to rent. Yes, with the internet, you’ll have all the information you’ll need to decide when, where and how you’re moving abroad. Here are some of the best resources on the net to get the best information on your move.
Transitions Abroad – One of the most popular websites about moving overseas. Transitions Abroad offers information on living, traveling, working and studying in another country. They have articles written by experts, but some of the best stuff are written by people who have actually experienced living abroad. (http://www.transitionsabroad.com/)
Expat Exchange – Another popular website, Expat Exchange also has articles, but most people like the opportunity to network with other expats living in the country by signing up. (http://www.expatexchange.com)
Expat Finder – This is probably one of the first websites you should visit when you start your search. This has great resources on finding just about anything while overseas – from insurance and banking to housing and education. (http://www.expatfinder.com)
Family Life Abroad -For those moving with their families (especially young children), this site has some great information and often humorous accounts from parents living abroad about their daily lives. (http://www.familylifeabroad.com/)
The Big Guide to Living and Working Overseas – Based on the best-selling book, this site is HUGE! It offers a lot of help for people thinking of or already in the process of moving abroad. It is a subscription site, so there’s a fee, but it offers lots of great advice for people in school or just about to graduate. (http://www.workingoverseas.com/)
Expat Women – Being female and moving abroad has its challenges. Women are always looking for sisterly support and advice. This website is geared towards women’s issues (like pregnancy during an assignment abroad, expat bride-zillas and relationships) and has a lot of stories and personal experiences from women abroad. Hello. I ran across your page by accident but was glad that I stopped by. My brother and my friends have started doing a huge lot of internet research regarding apartments in Italy and where to stay and other misc. By the way, thanks for the info – excited I searched it by accident and will share. Using research I begun compiling information about Florence apartments on my site. If you have a chance, check it out in my post. Ciao.
