Spend Less On Your Move
If you are planning to move to a new home, one of the things which you should consider is your budget. Since moving can be quite costly, there are some things which you need to cut back on. If you would like to be able to save money on your move, here are some tips you can follow.
Save Money from Hiring Moving Companies
One way you can save money is to avoid moving companies. This is especially true if you are only moving within your current state. Instead of renting a moving company which can be quite expensive, you can just rent a truck and ask your friends to join you so that you can get help with moving your items into the new home. Just do not forget to give your friends some pizza and drinks for their hard work and help.
Buy Plastic Containers
Instead of buying new cabinets or drawers, you can buy plastic containers instead. You can also ask to borrow some from your family and friends if they have extra storage containers which you can use for packing. After you have moved, you can simply return it to them. It also will not hurt if you buy some, especially if you are aware that you will be needing them for some storage purposes. Even if they can cost some money, they are a good investment since they can be used over and over again.
Boxes
You can ask for boxes from the stores since they no longer need them. However, these boxes should not be overpacked or else the contents will fall out. Another way you can get boxes is to ask from your friends, neighbors or family members since they normally will not be needing them. By doing so, you are also helping the environment by recycling them.
Garbage Bags
If you do not have enough bags, you can make use of garbage bags for packing your beddings and clothes. Also, you can choose to buy those clear garbage bags so that you can easily see what has been packed inside. By doing so, you can easily sort out which bag belong to which room.
Clothing, Linens, and Plastic Bags
Another item which you must avoid is buying popcorn and bubblewraps. This is because they cannot be recycled, reused and it will just seem like a waste of money buying them. Instead, you can use linens, pillows, clothing, towels, and even grocery bags so you can wrap those fragile items. This advice works especially well if you have a short move and you can guarantee that your boxes will all be handled carefully.
Packing Supplies
If it cannot be avoided and you will need to buy packing supplies, you can try to buy from the cheaper options available such as discount chains and dollar stores. Normally, this is also where you can buy markers, packing tape, and even new boxes. However, you should only opt to go to these packing stores only when you really need to.
